Welcome home, Dr. Danita Berg. Danita will assume the position of MFAW program director starting on May 3, 2021. She holds both an MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College and a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition from the University of South Florida. She brings an extensive background in college-level teaching, administration, and leadership, with an emphasis on virtual learning and creative writing pedagogy.
Danita has held increasing leadership roles in higher education. She chaired and directed Full Sail University’s English department, where she led 30 instructors as they developed online, campus, and hybrid classes. She has chaired the annual creative writing conferences and worked within the community to create monthly writing workshops for the public, and was named the founding director of its low-residency MFA in Creative Writing program.
Her theoretical and pedagogical interests include her published, co-edited book, Creative Composition: Inspiration and Techniques for Writing Instruction with Multilingual Matters. She is credited with being the founder and non-fiction editor of the online literary magazine Animal: A Beast of a Literary Magazine, which drew more than 5,000 subscribers.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Berg, who will lead and manage the bi-coastal MFAW program in Plainfield, Vermont, and Port Townsend, Washington. She will help the MFAW program through a time of transition; paying close attention to prioritizing the broadening and deepening of the curricular, racial/ethnic, and demographic diversity of the MFAW program.
