Bilingual Education Endorsement

community education concentration

You are needed. Our nation is changing rapidly, and you can be part of the great transformation occurring in our schools and communities as they become more culturally and linguistically diverse. Goddard’s Bilingual Education Endorsement teaches you how best to support the languages spoken by students in the classroom and other settings, and also teaches you how best to support their values and honor their beliefs, customs, and cultures.

Since 1980, the number of school-aged children speaking languages other than English at home has doubled, now constituting 21% of the school-aged population. Between 2000 and 2010, the Latino population grew by 43%, representing more than half of U.S. population growth. So today, the U.S. Department of Education identifies bilingual education as a high-need field.

Goddard College’s Bilingual Education Endorsement will help you meet the urgent bilingual and multicultural needs in your community. This endorsement authorizes educators to teach students who are English Language Learners (ELL) and/or native English speakers in both English and Spanish.

We offer two study tracks: the Master of Arts in Education accompanied by Bilingual Education Endorsement (36 credits, three semesters) and the Bilingual Education Post-Baccalaureate Endorsement (24 credits, two semesters). Both options prepare educators to plan, develop, implement, and assess standards-based content instruction in English and Spanish.

Goddard College is the first college or university in Vermont to gain state approval to add bilingual education to its teacher education program.
