Giving to Goddard College
Gifts to the Annual Fund are powerful because they go to work immediately, and provide vital support to the day-to-day operations of the College. Through your contribution, you provide support for academic programs, financial aid for students, stewardship of our historic buildings and gardens, an outstanding faculty, and the tools and technology needed to deliver an amazing educational experience.
Donate to the Annual Fund
Over 80% of students at Goddard rely on institutional scholarships and grants to meet their total cost of attendance. Goddard is one of the best value institutions in the Northeast, but many students would not be able to attend without the additional financial support provided by these gifts. Make a difference in a student’s life today by giving a gift to your choice of scholarship funds.

Together for Goddard Campaign
“This campaign is an invitation to join in establishing Goddard as a leading voice and inspiring model of meaningful, transformational, and learner-driven education” – President Bernard Bull
The Together for Goddard Campaign is an effort to realize a future for the College as a thriving and financially durable institution, as a leader in higher education innovation, and to solidify Goddard’s essential and unique contribution to the academic landscape.
We’re 25% of the way toward our $4 million campaign goal. Your gift will help us take the next step toward realizing a new era of financial strength and academic innovation by 2022.
Launched in January 2020, the campaign contributed to a positive financial turnaround of the College that secured continued accreditation with the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). Join us now in creating the next phase of Goddard College.

Racial Justice Initiatives
Goddard College seeks to take action to combat systemic racism and to create a more diverse and equitable culture. In response to the violence and police brutality witnessed this year towards African Americans and other persons of color, the Goddard College Board of Trustees has established two new initiatives: The Race and Social Justice Memorial Scholarship and the George Floyd Center for Social Justice.
The Race and Social Justice Memorial Scholarship is established in honor of those African Americans and other persons of color that have lost their lives as the result of racially motivated police brutality due to systemic racism and injustice. This annual scholarship will be awarded to African American undergraduate or graduate students whose work or proposed work reflects a commitment to addressing racism and social injustice, and supports inclusion and diversity.
The George Floyd Center for Social Justice is established in honor and memory of George Floyd, who lost his life to police brutality on May 25, 2020. The Center will serve as a place for lectures, academic programs, art and performances, retreats and community meetings as we continue to strive to develop within our students the capacity for leadership, so that our students view themselves as competent, caring contributors to a more equal and just world.

More Ways to Give
TRANSFER OF STOCK OR APPRECIATED SECURITIES
Giving appreciated securities to Goddard College may be preferable to giving cash. Federal tax law offers special incentives for non-cash gifts, particularly if that property has appreciated. When you give a gift of stock, you avoid capital gains tax. Gains are taxable if you were to sell the stock yourself, but not if donated. Your charitable deduction for federal income tax purposes is based on the full fair market value of the stock on the date of stock transfer. You receive credit from Goddard College for the full fair market value, but the cost to you is only your original purchase price.

MAKE A PLANNED GIFT
Making a bequest to Goddard provides an important legacy, ensuring that a Goddard education exists for generations to come.
If you want to include Goddard in your will, here is some suggested language you can use: “I give (the sum of __ dollars) OR (all, or ___ percent of the residuary of my estate) to Goddard College of Plainfield, Vermont, for its general purposes.”
You can also state a specific purpose for the gift. We recommend that you consult with an attorney. Let us know how we can help, and also let us know if you have planned a gift for Goddard.
Naming Goddard College the owner and irrevocable beneficiary of a paid-up or variable life insurance policy can give you an immediate charitable deduction (for income tax purposes) equal to the fair market value of the policy.
You can name Goddard College as beneficiary for any IRA or Keogh pension plan funds not used in your lifetime. This saves your estate significant income or estate taxes once the assets pass to the College.
