Artist and amateur astronomer Tracey Pilch (MFAIA ’07) is an adjunct professor in the Liberal Studies Department of Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage, where she was honored as outstanding adjunct this year. She is also active in annual art projects which raise funds for local youth programs and charities in Alaska and Hawaii.
“My time at Goddard deepened my exploration of the creative self and the interconnectedness of life to all things. I work in a perpetual dialogue with nature and our magnetic universe,” says Tracey.
“I paint what I love – the beauty and complexities of our world, and the wildlife and people in it. Art is my great joy, and it’s an honor to share it. Like my mentors, I seek to inspire the value of dreaming and possibility; to promote the joy and power of creative, responsible voice.”
Currently, she is completing a non-fiction novel, The Kindred Hours, inspired by life with her 20-year-old Maine Coon cat.
“It’s a metaphoric exploration of what we find essential and meaningful in our lives. It journeys through the cat’s luminous presence in art and human history, while embracing the joys of companionship, awe, and the lessons of loving and losing,” says Tracey.
